All accounts should telnet to draconis.weyr.org. A HUGE shout-out to Jay for getting these machines talking to the Internet again! All mailing lists are working correctly again. This includes the Region One 'Lectronic Link. An additional server is being added for redundancy. Again, we apologize for any inconvience this may have caused. Can't have that, can we? Nope * Kimi swears she paid the bill. I don't see any hands raised. Anybody got any particular subject the= y want to discuss tonight? Where's Jack Hopkins? Don't know. Has he left for Florida yet? Or is he still there? Did you have a question for Jack? Maybe I can answer it. He's not currently online....I just checked AOL. I think he's in Fl. I (Robin) have a question: Can we switch to a different night?= I am usually in a Summit meeting on Tuesdays. <|{|ingon> yea <|{|ingon> what night * FAdm_Mike notes that three weeks from now it won't be a concern for a whil= e Hmmmmm ... what did you have in mind? Only for a month, Mike. Are you in a summit meeting now? re, Kim...again. :) Well, Wednesday is also out since we have Voyager. No Summit m= eeting tonight, just most of the chats scheduled thus far. I know. Tuesdays were chosen originally because it was the only nigh= t most people could attend. <|{|ingon> how bout monday nites No matter which night we pick, there's going to be someone who can't = make it. I work Monday nights. Bingo. <|{|ingon> oooooooo joan <|{|ingon> come on <|{|ingon> hehehe <|{|ingon> Saturdays I have an amateur radio club meeting on one Thursday evening a month. Saturdays are rough for me. Weekends are out for most people. I work Thursdays. Kimi works Thursdays. What ship are you on Kimberly? Saturdays are bad for me as well. <|{|ingon> how bout sending logs to ppl who cant make it I should know, but like I said, I have a headache tonight. * CapnTMi notes that while it is not necessary for both Joan and I to be her= e, but it is necessary for one of the other of us to be. Well, I figured weekends were out. <|{|ingon> then next meeting if they have issues they can bring it up I make the log available to anyone who asks for it. <|{|ingon> cool <|{|ingon> there u go So, looks like Tuesdays are best for most people, and like Mike said,= in three weeks you won't be having a summit meeting for awhile. :-) <|{|ingon> and if i am here i can log Sorry, I missed that. I'm on the Bennu. I think we'll leave it on Tuesdays for now. It seems to work. =20 I always log, so it's no prob for me to send it out, if Tammy can= 't make it. OK, any other questions??? =20 <|{|ingon> there we go motion carried? Come on, I know you all are curious about something? What? ok, I guess I'll continue to miss most of the chats then. :-) Is there a reason you can't attend after the summit, Robin? For about a month we don't have meetings and then we start all = over again. Maybe you could switch to another night? :) Plus, I go to Bennu meetings which are also on Tuesdays. Or do you run into the same problem with that too? Well, I'd like to have a chat in here at least every other month, so = maybe we could have this bi-monthly chat on a different night next time. The chats in the chatroom on my webpage are very informal. Not like = these. hehehehehehe OK, moving on... Tammy do you have any new news about the regionone d= omain? Stick with the second Tuesday of the month and I think things w= ill work out. I'm making a note. Robin. I got an email from Bernie last night, it appears he may not be mo= ving after all. One of his previous emails indicated that he would do every= thing he could to keep the domain up and running as long as possible. Do we have any indication as to how "long" that may be? He knows that I want to keep it active until at least IC99 is over= . * FAdm_Mike raises hand. I haven't had the opportunity to have a full blown discussion with= him about it. I see a hand ... Fadm Mike, would you like to say something. I feel = like a school teacher. heheheheh * CapnJoan grins ... * FAdm_Mike notes that Greg Trotter and I have discussed offering space on t= he sfi.org server for regionone.com. Since Bernie is still listed as the adm= in contact, if you wanted to go that way, it's fairly simple to transfer con= trol of internet domains. Just an FYI. I have contacted Greg concerning this...however, he can't run the = databases on his domain. We are considering that Mike. It's one of our alternatives to shutti= ng it down, but we need Bernie's permission or something.=20 We're trying to find something to house all sites on the domain...= . Plus the problem Tammy just mentioned with the databases. So, althou= gh we haven't ruled Greg's generous offer out, we are checking into other th= ings. * FAdm_Mike sits back down. Thank you Mike. Greg's offer is our best bet thought at this time. What is Greg's offer, we missed it We've had another offer to set us up, but it would wind up costing us= a bit to put up anything except just the R/1 website. I think I got that right didn't I, Tammy? Greg can run the domain for us...at no cost...however, he can't ho= st the databases that are currently on the domain. K, thanks The other offer we had is not truly feasible, it would cost a grea= t deal of money. * FAdm_Mike notes that Mark Anbinder runs a Macintosh system and had offered= to host the IC99 database. Perhaps he'd agree to host the other databases as well? Exactly (or as near as you can remember) how many databases are we ta= lking about Tammy? I haven't had a chance to talk to Mark about it yet. I know that = he has discussed it with Les and Matt. But we need to be able to get the in= fo from Bernie to him. hi Robin. Hi, all. * FAdm_Mike takes TMi private so as not to clutter the chat up.... I'm not sure if the Summit has a database, but there is also the c= yberbook and ships databases. Oh, the dual personality just split. lol OK, well, we actually have a ship database (not as elaborate as Berni= e's) on Jay Leafey's system. * AlexDTS smiles at Robin/Sybil. Plus a lot of the ships have webpages of their own, so making a link = to the various ship webpages might take care of that one. If we need to eliminate the databases. However, the cyberbook would be hard to recreate without some experti= se with databases. Well, I do have a ShOC related statement, when you all are ready. OK, so we all know where we are on the regionone domain thing. We ap= parently have quite a bit more time then we thought, and several alternatives to look into. Tammy and Blair along with others will continue to work on it. Sooooo, if there are no other comments on this, how about another que= stion or new subject???? Let's see some hands. * CapnTMi needs to note something. Please go ahead, Tammy. I think Robin was ahead of me. * AlexDTS points at Robin, too. Oh, I'm sorry I didn't see Robin's hand. Must have been behind Eric.= Please go ahead Robin. Oh, ok. I found out late last night that the shuttle Argos is final= ly going to be commissioned as a starship. Yes. The USS Intrepid. According to Robert, the CO. BRB, I need to say goodnight to the little one. I won't be gone lo= ng. That's good news!!! Another ship in Ohio!!! Yeah, Ohio!! Oh, wait, I= already said that. They are having a commissioning party ... I think it's May 15th. =20 When's commissioning, Robin? I'm back. That was quick. Yep, the 15th of May. Where in OH? Do we know if Robert or any of the crew will be at the Summit? Mansfield. whoa... Hi Dave. hi Dave! My God, It's full of Stars...... O.K.! I like to keep track of the OH chapters. 8) No, Miz...that's full of pips Hi Val. anyone from uss charleston? i noticed yall mentioned region1 ok..ok.../me puts on his 5 pips hi Carl is not here right now... and only one star but I think Vic is still on the ship. yea he is Anything else, Robin? just not co anymore LOL capt-lew is No, except that the MSR web page must not have forwarded a few MSR's= to me this month. carl just left my house :P Robin is it your birthday? he picked up an old microwave from me How old are you???? Happy Birthday, Robin! Happy Birthday Robin! Thank you, thank you, thank, you....... god i must be lagging * R1RC Guess I'm gonna have to go look up Robin's file and see how old he is= . :-) Robin is a well preserved 50 LOL! OK, gift opening is later. Back to the reason we're here... R1 chat. want me to tellya Carolyn? Sure. Gee, thanks, Eric! * ReprisalCO gets hit in the back of the head with a laptop * CapnTMi reminds Dave he is not supposed to play in the database. Ah, Tammy you wanted to say something a while ago, do you remember wh= at it was. * CapnJoan thought physical retaliation was coming. * CapnTMi remembers * CapnTMi points out that Ben Redding posted stuff to the old weyr.org lists= tonight...and it worked. Has anyone talked to Charles about it? Hi Katie. Yeah, I noticed that too, Tammy... Yes, got an e-mail from him right before I logged on here. Hi, Katie. hi joan Hi Katie. hi robin hi all Hi BElannaT Hi, Katie... He says the R1LL is ready for a smoke test. Guess Ben smoked (I mean= "tested") it. Greetings BElannaT! What is Ben smoking????! :-) Okay....so are we to the point of making decisions on the list ser= ve now? What decisions do you want to make? I want to give Charles a couple = of days to test it before we turn things completely back to the R1LL. Is th= at all right? I agree, Caro. Yup....I just want to make sure that we keep everyone informed. I agree. We only have a very small number of entries for the "Trek Costumes Other than Starfleet." We need to know which character and which episode/movie the costume comes from. Please E-mail Linda Oakley at Lmaes1@aol.com with this information as well as your name and the name of your ship, station or shuttle. We need the information LONG BEFORE Summit (April 25th) so the judges can check the episode or movie the costume originates so they will know how good of a job you did. NO ONE will be allowed to enter this part of the costume contest at Summit. If we don't have an entry from you by e-mail or US mail before Summit for this category, then you don't get to compete. So hurry up all you costumers and costume makers!!! As for the Starfleet Uniforms, make sure you have them ready for judging during the dance Saturday night! And don't forget about the miniature golf tournament! He is *NOT* losing the server! All webpages, databases, and vanity emails that have already been assigned or have space are good to go! He plans on keeping the server up and running for I quote "as long as he is alive". Please note that he will not, however, be accepting any additional webpages or vanity emails accounts. There will be no further charges to keep any current webpages, databases or emails running as long as Bernie has the server. I'd like to remind everyone, that this is a *HUGE* favor that Bernie is doing for us right now. I've checked into prices for duplicating the set-up that Bernie created, and it would cost on the average of $20 per month, just for the domain, let alone the costs for additional email address and web space. If anyone has any questions about the server, please do not hesitate to ask me. Bernie is not able to spend long periods of time on-line right now, so he has requested that I assist him with questions. It appears that all of the mailing lists in the Region One 'Lectronic Link (R1LL) are working correctly, so I'm using this message to "open the floodgates" so to speak. :) I want to give a special thanks to Jay who has helped make sure everything is running smoothly. Since it has been a while since the R1LL lists have been working, let me refresh everyone's memory on how they work... Thr R1LL is a group of mailing lists (currently 7) designed to facilitate the distribution of official Region One information electronically. The R1LL is currently run by Region One Computer Operations. The lists are controlled by the mailing list administration software, "Majordomo". Using majordomo is easy... just send a message to "majordomo@weyr.org" from the e-mail account you wish to use to receive mail. In the body of the message text, you place the command to give majordomo, either "SUBSCRIBE" or "UNSUBSCRIBE" followed by the name of the list you wish to subscribe/unsubscribe. You can send multiple commands in a single message, just use a seperate line for each one. You can optionally use 3 dashes to tell majordomo that you are done giving it commands: handy if you have a signature file that might confuse it. This is really easier than it sounds. :) Here's a sample message: --------------------------------------- | Date: 21 Apr 99 | From: Charles (hedgehog@weyr.org) | To: majordomo@weyr.org | Subj: Doesn't matter! |---------------------------- | unsubscribe r1-chat | subscribe r1-chat-digest | subscribe r1-memo | --- | If you have questions/comments, feel free to e-mail me at hedgehog@weyr.org There are currently 7 lists. As you can see, some R1 departments have their own list, if you wish for one to be added, please e-mail hedgehog or jay. r1-aac : R1 Alien Ambassador Corps r1-chat : R1 General Chat r1-chat-digest : Same as r1-chat, only in digest form r1-marines : R1 Marines r1-memo : R1 Monthly Memo (Read Only) r1-rdc : R1 RDCs (Restricted) r1-staff : Region One Staff (Restricted) When you send a message to majordomo, you will receive a message back saying what actions it took. For some areas that are Restricted, majordomo will tell you your request is being forwarded to the list owner for verification; when it is verified (usually within a few days), you'll get a confirmation message of the verification. Please note that to prevent spam or other unwanted messages, in order to send a message to a R1 List, you MUST be subscribed to it. Please do NOT send CCs to ANY R1 List. This is the practice of sending the same message and sending it to multiple mailing lists. You should ALWAYS check to make sure the message is relevant for that area. You should NOT be sending the same message to r1-chat, r1-rdc, r1-staff, etc. since many people will receive multiple copies (since R1 Staff members are usually subscribe to all three). (R1 Chat is NOT an announcement list, it is for general chat). Also, when people reply to the message, they tend to forget to take the CCs out of the message, creating a whole thread crossposted unneedingly. By continuing this practice, you make the R1LL counterproductive. (Okay, I'm doing it for this message, but that's because I'm the administrator. :) And because I'm posting the instructions for the R1LL, which is relevant for all areas of the link). For more information, please e-mail me or go to http://www.weyr.org/r1ll/ Thanks and enjoy! (Cmdr.) Several of us would like to know how to plan our weekend around the meetings and panels. It would be especially useful to those of us who are actually conducting meetings. Also, unless I have missed it, it might be a good thing to post directions to Gatlinburg to the lists again this year. How about giving the directions for the short cut from Seveirville that goes around Pigeon Forge? Just some thoughts. See everyone Friday! Fleet Captain Eric W. There will be several ways you can come into town. The way the City of Gatlinburg is suggesting is to take interstate to the hwy 32 and 321 exit in Newport, Tn. Now coming from I-40 (Knoxville) you do not turn at the normal place (hwy 66) keep going to Newport on I-40 (left at the I-81 split) (I-81 users from Virgina etc follow these directions from here on) take the 321 hwy 32 hwy exit. This is a new road and when you get to the end turn right and then turn imediatly to the left. This will be hwy 32. Take this Hwy for several miles and then you will see a sign on the right that points to Gatlinburg ( Hwy 321) follow it until it dead ends in the middle of Gatlinburg. Turn left, but be in the right lane of traffic. Go to the 3way split and take the middle road to the right (river road) and the motel is then the first place on the right The River Terrace Resort. YOU MADE IT. Now, if you want to chance hwy 66 not being busy, you can come in from hwy 66 and when you get into Sevierville (you will be crossing the river and the jail is on the right after you turn left onto the road there. You will go about 5 miles (past the Sevier County High School) and you will need to be in the right lane. It is a must turn lane at hwy 316. Take that road all the way until it dead ends (always going toward Gatlinburg) their is one place that it look will say Pittman Center Road that goes to the left and then just past that a sign says Dollywood and Pigeon Forge to the right but don't take these. Stay straight thru. You will get to another place that has a turn and a straight and it doesn't matter whitch way you go but the straight may be a little faster. Turn right to go into town. This will be hwy 321 and it will take you straight into the middle of Gatlinburg. It dead ends in the middle of town and be in the right lane for turning left. Go to the next right (3 way intersection) take the middle road ( river road) and the motel is the first place on the right The River Terrace Resort. And YOU MADE IT. If you would like a map that has the interstate routes on it just email me at Trekscotty@msn.com and i will send you one. See you this weekend. 2 days!!!!!!!!! Ben C.
